Hey there, welcome to my corner on the internet! I am a fourth-year Systems Design Engineering student at the University of Waterloo with a driven passion for (innovative) technology, (creative) design, and (boundless) learning.

In particular, my interests lie in developing efficient solutions to complex problems through software and diversifying my skillset by applying new tools and technologies. I’m incredibly passionate about technology and its influence on the world - I aspire to be part of that change.

When I’m not following Engineering blogs or reading books, I frequently hang out with friends at cafés, avidly play + watch sports (especially soccer & basketball), and explore various restaurants.

Experience

Since 2018, I’ve been fortunate to intern at five different companies (six total internships) through the University of Waterloo’s co-op program. Most recently, I interned as a Production Engineering Intern at Shopify for two terms; on the Caching Platform and Cloud Platform teams. Prior to Shopify, my four other internships have been primarily focused on back-end infrastructure and Site Reliability Engineering at TextNow, League, SSIMWAVE and AIG (in reverse chronological order).

Why?

Prior to starting this blog, I’ve found myself passively watching various tech conference presentations, browsing articles, and reading documentation without any mechanism to trace the primary takeaways. Passive learning such as the aforementioned activities has enabled me to learn concepts at the surface level. Although, developing a more comprehensive understanding of a requires a more active learning approach. Expressing ideas in writing prompts me to internalize concepts and identify misconceptions in my understanding. Writing bridges the gap between passive and active learning.

A goal of mine is to consistently enhance my technical know-how and understanding of software. In particular, I am passionate about distributed systems and backend infrastructure. (Although, I intend for this blog not to consist exclusively of software-related content).
