Thinking in Systems: A Primer

★★★★☆

Awesome book; I would recommend it to anyone interested in learning about Systems Theory and that works on large scale systems. The Systems Thinking model described by Donella Meadows consists of:

  • Stock and Flow Analysis;
  • Reinforcing & Balancing Feedback loops i. Reinforcing ii .Balancing
  • Feedback Delays; and
  • Common Systems Archetypes.

Understanding and adopting this Systems Thinking model allows one to extrapolate on the “why”? of many common problems encountered and critically analyze the existing support structures that cause a system to produce a specific effect.

“Remember, always, that everything you know, and everything everyone knows, is only a model."
